Dr. Hyun Ji Lee of bMRI is a proud recipient of the 2022 Best Doctoral Dissertation in Education Award from the Korean Educational Research Association. Her dissertation title is "Effects of Mindsets on Academic Effort: Roles of Effort Beliefs, Effort Cost, and Self-Regulatory Efficacy." Across two related experiments, she reported that learners' decisions on how much effort to invest in the given task depended on their beliefs about the nature of effort and ability, assessed as effort belief and mindset. The results demonstrate an important possibility that students can improve their effort and achievement when their growth mindset is strengthened.
